BoruBoru is a fast casual dinning restaurant, located next to the new Target on Tennessee Street, serving freshly made sushi bowls, poke bowls and sushi burritos. For those of you that morned the closure of Fujiyama a few months ago along with me, this is an amazing alternative, right across the street from the previously occupied Fujiyama location!

In their own words, BoruBoru “is a fast casual eatery inspired by Japanese cuisine with a touch of today’s approach towards custom built meals for every life style. We specialize in sushi bowls, poke bowls and sushi burritos in a delicious way. Whether you are a carnivore, pescetarian, or vegetarian, you’ll be pleasantly surprised by the options we have for you.”

When I walked in, I was greeted right away and asked if I had ever dined there before. When I admitted my newbie status, they filled me in on their deal of the day – $2 off and a drink when you order one of their Boost signature toppings. The way their meals work is you pick a base – rice bowl, sushi burrito, or salad bowl, and then choose from their list of signature options – Boost, Poke, or the House – or just full on build your own, the possibilities are endless.

I opted for the rice bowl base with sushi rice and one of their signature toppings, The Muscle Man from The Boost selections so I could cash in on their deal. The Muscle Man comes with salmon, spicy tuna, BoruBoru chicken, avocado, cucumber, pickled jalapeño, picked red onion, scallion, spicy mayo and poke dressing. Because I was in a super fresh fish mood, I opted for no chicken, add in a little extra of the salmon and tuna.

You guys, this bowl was fantastic. So fresh and so full of flavor. The tuna seemed comparable to a seared ahi tuna, something I order everywhere I go if it’s on the menu. It was perfectly seasoned and was a wonderful compliment to the salmon and other fresh ingredients. I ate every last bite of my massive bowl and I left so happily stuffed. Their chef proves that eating healthy is far from boring. You have to visit their Instagram profile and click on their “Mentions” highlight (featuring poke, sushi burritos, ramen, curry, bulgogi, takoyaki, sushi nachos, boba tea, bao, pork belly, chicken, vegan options, beer, sake and so much more!). Oh my, I literally stared at it longer than I should have because I was in awe of the amazing combinations their super fans came up with, it’s foodie art!

I rarely go to a restaurant and sit on my own, but that’s exactly what I did here, along with a few other patrons doing the same. I thoroughly enjoyed myself in this light bright, beautifully decorated space, eating my bowl, checking email, sipping my fountain Coke, and enjoying the moment.

Now I don’t think this place is going to have any trouble slinging bowls, because they have such an amazing product, but please, for me, go there and go there often so they stay alive and thriving! It’s near my job and I plan on visiting often because it just has feel good vibes from the space, to the service, and the food. With cooler weather right around the corner, I plan on taking full advantage of their outdoor space very soon!
