If you’ve been wondering what’s going in the former Lucy and Leo’s location, I have all the scoop, just for you! Another day, another super exciting, exclusive announcement shared with Tallahassee Foodies!

Argonaut Coffee, getting so much hype for their full-on coffee shop experience right inside TOC’s main clinic, is celebrating their one year anniversary tomorrow, and what better way to commemorate the moment than expanding to a new space very soon! Their location of choice – the upstairs space of Midtown Reader, previously occupied by Lucy and Leo’s. The expansion of Argonaut has led to yet another partnership for Jeri Madden, of Jeri’s Midtown Cafe, and here’s how it all went down.

After the closing of our very loved Lucy and Leo’s Cupcakery, Midtown Reader approached Jeri about doing a coffee shop and bar in their beautiful upstairs space and Jeri immediately brought Jason McArthur of Argonaut Coffee into the conversation. Jason got his start in the coffee industry in Midtown, so he’s beyond excited to be back!

With excitement about this collaborative effort, Jason immediately thought of his friend in Denver that runs a similar coffee shop / bar / bookstore concept in Denver called the BookBar. Midtown Reader has the bookstore part covered, Argonaut will serve their amazing coffee creations, and Jeri will do what Jeri does best, provide food and fun-sip, boozey adult beverages. It’s a one stop shop, my friends!

Beyond the unique bookstore, coffee shop, and bar concept, Argonaut also brings a few other aspects into their cafe that are unique to Tallahassee. Jason said, “we make our own syrups, we have authentic cuban style coffee, and the food menu has been crafted by Jeri specifically for this shop. It’s quite an enjoyable experience”.

If you’re wondering what will be served exclusively at Argonaut from Jeri’s Midtown Cafe, I’ve got a first look for you. The menu will include Mini Blueberry whipping cream biscuits, a Spicy Pimento Cheese Tea Sandwich served on thin sliced bread with muscadine preserves and bacon, Warm Croissants with a side of butter and muscadine preserves, Miniature Chicken Salad Croissants filled with hand pulled chicken salad, grey poupon, salami, toasted almonds and muscadine preserves, Charcuterie & Cheese enough for 1 or 2, and Assorted Pastries.

Regarding the current pandemic, Jason said, “the best part about our store will be the in-house experience of browsing the bookstore with a glass of wine, or sitting at one of our tables or the bar and reading, working, or just relaxing while you enjoy the coffee shop / bar vibe. With COVID limiting our indoor seating and capacity it may be awhile before people can fully enjoy the space, but we think the quality of products will still be enough to bring people in and enjoy takeout, curbside pickup, or our limited indoor capacity”.

There will be quite a few cosmetic changes happening throughout the next couple of weeks, but the super fun dream is to open this location very soon! Keep in touch at our Tallahassee Foodies Facebook group for more upcoming details! Their hours will be 10-6 Tuesday thru Saturday, and 10-4 on Sundays with perhaps Mondays as well in the near future.
