Have you ever made a key lime pie from scratch before? I love to make this key lime pie recipe because it surprisingly simple and so dang tasty!

I have so many friends in my life that love themselves a key lime pie, and I’m happy to make it for them anytime. A friend helped us around the house, he gets a key lime pie. Another key lime pie loving friend has an upcoming birthday, he gets a key lime pie… any excuse to show off this simple, beautiful, tasty, and now seasonal pie.

The graham cracker crust recipe is only 5 simple ingredients, mixed, pressed into a pie dish, and baked for a few minutes. The key lime pie recipe is just as simple. Again, just a few simple ingredients, mixed, poured over the baked and cooled graham cracker crust, and chilled.

What I love is that the filling makes a bit more than will fit in my pie dish, so I find myself with quite a bit left over in the bowl to eat with a spoon! Yum!

Key Lime Pie

  • 1 9 inch prepared graham cracker crust
  • 3 cups sweetened condensed milk
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • ¾ cup key lime juice
  • 1 tablespoon grated key lime zest
  • 3 key limes for garnish
  • 1 lime for garnish

Graham Cracker Crust

  • 1 1/2 cups finely ground graham cracker crumbs
  • 1/3 cup white sugar
  • 6 tablespoons butter melted
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon finely ground graham cracker crumbs for garnish

Graham Cracker Crust

  • Mix graham cracker crumbs, sugar, melted butter or margarine, and cinnamon until well blended . Press mixture into an 8 or 9 inch pie plate. I save about a teaspoon of unmixed crushed graham cracker to garnish the top of the pie.
  • Bake at 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) for 7 minutes. Cool. If recipe calls for unbaked pie shell, just chill for about 1 hour.

Key Lime Pie

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • In a medium bowl, combine condensed milk, sour cream, lime juice, and lime rind. Mix well and pour into graham cracker crust.
  • Bake in preheated oven for 5 to 8 minutes, until tiny pinhole bubbles burst on the surface of pie. DO NOT BROWN! Chill pie thoroughly before serving. Garnish with lime slices and whipped cream if desired.
