My husband and I had a wonderful New Year’s Eve dining experience at the new Hayward House in Tallahassee, located in the transformed space that once housed Andrew’s. The American bistro, located at South 228 Adams Street in Downtown Tallahassee, opened their doors on December 7th serving more than 1,700 guests in their first weekend.
“We are absolutely blown away by the support from this weekend,” shared Hayward House owner Ashley Chaney. “I am grateful for the excitement and warm welcome from the community at Hayward House. Thank you to the Hayward House team for working to serve the people of Tallahassee and ensure a special and unique dining experience. Thank you to all our wonderful vendors and partners for your hard work. You made this restaurant a reality. And to the Tallahassee residents, visitors and guests this weekend, thank you for your presence. Your support and energy truly made Hayward House a home.”
To step inside, I was blown away by the transformation of this space and how quickly they pulled it off. It was fun to remember “what was here and what was there” when it was Andrew’s. The interior is completely renovated – the bar is now the beautiful centerpiece of the entire space, the decor is modern, yet has that Downtown timeless traditional feel, setting the stage for wonderful moments of brunch, lunch, dinner, and special occasions.
For those looking to enjoy a spontaneous, quick gathering for a cocktail and conversation, give a little extra time for your meetup – it’s likely you’ll find yourselves lingering a bit longer than expected. The warm and welcoming atmosphere will entice you to indulge in an array of delicious options from their menu featuring flavors inspired by the owners’ heritage and travels. Each dish told a story, resonating with the tastes of their hometowns and the adventures they have embarked upon.
The Menu at Hayward House in Tallahassee
We ate so much! We wanted to tour each section of their menu and savor a much needed date night away from our kiddos for a few hours. We started with their super flavorful poutine, a dish that has garnered rave reviews from many at our Tallahassee Foodies Facebook Group. The combination of hand-cut house fries, in a brown roux gravy, and chunks of white cheddar curds was a delicious start to our evening, leaving us eager to try so much more of what Hayward House had to offer.
Next we moved on to one of our favorites of the night – the Salmon Tostadas were bursting with the vibrant flavors of fresh ingredients, featuring salmon and zesty mayo, crisp watermelon radish, creamy avocado, and a hint of jalapeño heat, all topped with a sprinkle of sesame seeds.
Part of their New Year’s Eve special menu included Stone Crab Claws boasting crab meat that practically melted in your mouth with a side of creamy mustard and the best cocktail sauce I’ve ever had in my life!
We knew their salads were perfectly sized as a meal portion; however, we went for it in an attempt to “try a bit of everything”. I had the super flavorful Iceberg Wedge loaded with blue cheese, cherry tomatoes, green onion, watermelon radish, bacon and a charred onion ranch and my husband loved his Shaved Brussel Salad layered with dried cherry, red onion, green apple and marcona.
Next we moved on to our main course. I think my husband and I meant to share, and I think somehow he ended up eating what I ordered, and I ate every bite of his order. We just couldn’t stop what we started lol. I had the Braised Short Rib Ragu with pappardelle, house ragu, parmesan reggiano. This dish was incredible! My husband had the Redfish on the Halfshell with skin-on filet, cajun seasoning and chargrilled broccolini and a side of their bursting with flavor seasonal risotto. I had leftovers of everything, he devoured every bite!
For the first time ever, I actually said “no” to dessert because we ate so much and had a New Year’s Eve party to get to, while my husband simultaneously said “yes”, so we ordered two desserts, of course! The chocolate mousse is a melt in your mouth indulgence, with layers of rich, silky-smooth chocolate mousse topped with whip cream and mint.
I’m a brownie connoisseur, and I don’t know what that means other than I love brownies and order them everywhere we go, and THIS brownie was the best I’ve ever had, pure heavenly cocoa bliss! The rich, chocolate brownie is a decadent delight, with a fudgy consisency and tastes so super indulgent. This was the most delicious grand finale before we got on our way.

It was an evening filled with delightful flavors, an unforgettable night where glasses were raised to the adventures that await us in the New Year.
