Café Yerishalmi is Tallahassee’s newest Kosher eatery, located just steps from Doak Campbell Stadium on Lake Bradford Road in the previous Bandidos Burritos establishment. Filled with rich aromas and intense flavors, the menu is inspired by “Israeli, Middle Eastern, and Mediterranean food with authentic spices from Israel,” notes the owner.
About her new restaurant, Magi Mekaiess says the following: “To experience the cafe, is to experience the warmth of home, the joy of friendship and community while enjoying food from the heart of Jerusalem.” She also emphasizes the importance of creating a fully Kosher restaurant, so that Jews and any other Kosher-eaters have a safe space to enjoy delicious food.
Café Yerishalmi’s Facebook page boasts pictures of the culinary masterpieces going back a few years, although the restaurant is brand new. This is because Magi has enjoyed cooking for Jewish students at Florida State University Hillel for years, and is thrilled to establish her first brick and mortar location.
In addition to FSU, Magi notes that her love of cooking brought her to Tallahassee, and also inspired her to open her Café. Café Yerushalmi is unique for its expansive Kosher menu, which upholds the food safety and quality standards that are very important to many Tallahasseeians.
The menu certainly lives up to the hype. Individuals with varying food restrictions, from Vegetarian to Gluten Free, can easily find something they’ll love. The menu features familiar favorites like hummus platters and French fries, as well as perhaps unfamiliar delicacies such as grape leaves and shakshuka. When the weather outside is frightful and we crave a little comfort food, I’ve noticed a Sephardic-style Matzah Ball Soup graces their Facebook page as a “soup of the day” special.
The Tallahassee Foodies community is thrilled to welcome this Israeli restaurant to our city! Make Café Yerushalmi your next lunch or dinner time spot. Whether you’re near campus anyway or traveling across town, the food is worth the trip.
Thank you so much to CAFE Yerushalmi for sharing your menu with our readers. We can’t wait to spread the word about your amazing, unique to Tallahassee, Israeli cuisine.
