I love that each community gathering we host brings together a different group of people based on their interests. At our New Orleans Jazz Brunch cooking class at Browns Kitchen, I spotted a couple of familiar faces, but for the most part, I had the chance to meet so many new foodie friends!

We had couples, friend duos, and several people who joined in on their own, including me. I grabbed a seat at the high top counter window overlooking the kitchen with a few other solo foodies, and we had the best time getting to know one another while enjoying an incredible meal. It was exactly the kind of experience I love: delicious food, new friendships, and tables filled with people who may not have met otherwise.

Hosting a Browns Kitchen class exclusively for our All Access Foodies supporters is something I have wanted to do for years, and I’m so glad we finally sat down together and made it happen. The class sold out almost immediately, so it was exciting to see how much interest there was! Everything worked out so beautifully that we’re already talking about collaborating again, possibly as often as every other month.

It was also wonderful to finally meet Chef Jamila. She is such a pro! I have no idea how she and her team managed to teach the entire class, prepare that much food, and make every single dish taste so spectacular.

Her shrimp and grits are still on my mind, and it was a very generous portion! We also enjoyed fried green tomatoes and beignets, two of my favorites, and hers were absolutely delicious. The smoked bourbon paprika she used in the shrimp and grits added such a special touch.

After the class, we had the chance to shop for some of the ingredients Chef Jamila used. She shared that one of her Browns Kitchen favorites is the caramelized garlic olive oil. She buys it in large quantities and still runs out quickly, so of course I had to bring some home! I also picked up the smoked bourbon paprika and the New Zealand wine served with our meal – one of my best buddies lives in New Zealand, so I never say no to a NZ wine.

It was a cooking class, menu tasting, wine tasting, shopping experience, and community gathering all rolled into one incredibly fun evening. Now I can’t wait to put all my new goodies to use in my own kitchen next weekend!

A huge thank-you to Browns Kitchen and Chef Jamila for creating such a wonderful experience for our All Access Foodies supporters. The food was impeccable, the class was so much fun, and our entire group had an amazing time. I certainly hope this was the first of many classes together!
